Our sexuality isn’t dangerous, our sexual energy isn’t ‘sinful’ or shameful – it is powerful, blissful, beautiful and liberating. What is problematic is when it is shamed, stuck and repressed, stuffed down, harmed, and our desires are hidden behind closed doors.
More than ever now we need spaces, practices and ways to help reclaim our sexual power.
Recently, right wing conservative groups in America campaigned successfully for women’s magazine, Cosmopolitan, to be removed from news stands in Walmart because of the sexual content –stigmatizing any form of sexual desire that is not condoned by their ‘standards’.
Our eroticism is being policed by those who would want us to be controlled and commodified as their “Handmaidens”. Meanwhile, those who make degrading, non-consensual pornography, go about their business as normal, behind closed doors.
Are we about to return to the middle ages? Where women are fragile creatures, sinful, whose sexual energy and power is dangerous and must be hidden or avoided at all costs.
Must we relinquish, body, mind and soul to the Inquisitor and get back in our place?
The scar is etched over the world of a fundamental religious attitude that is sex negative, women negative, body negative, and negative to anyone ‘other’ to its regime.
We feel that deep wound still etched into us, shutting down the pulse of life within. Closing our birthright to enjoy ourselves, love our bodies, and celebrate our sensual life force.
Now is the time to reclaim our sacred bodies, reclaim sex positive, and reclaim our power. Sex positive includes those of every sexual orientation and every gender identification. Sex positive means that we feel safe to celebrate what feels good, what is consensual, connecting, exciting, and makes us feel alive and full of wild sensual ecstatic pleasure. Sex positive means that we awaken the wild pulse of energy within us, and know that we are beautiful and that our sexuality is part of the very goodness of our feminine soul.
This was the work of the ancient priestess and shaman lineages, who understood the sacred power of Life that lives within us, and has the power to set us free.
